The Black sea

About the collection

The Black Sea is one of the most amazing seas on earth. It is almost completely isolated from the world's oceans. Its only connection to the oceans is the Bosphorus Strait. The Black Sea is the largest oxygen-free pool in the world. Its life is only at a depth of 150-200 m, where there is less salinity in the water. Further down is hydrogen sulfide and the water is also salty and dense.

Because of this there is no exchange of water and oxygen, which is the main reason for the accumulation of hydrogen sulfide.

Black Sea area 420 300 sq. Km. Km. Its maximum depth is 2211 m. Medium salinity 17-18 per mille. The water of the Black Sea is very different from other seas.

The plant and animal world of the Black Sea is diverse. Up to 2000 species of animals are counted here. 150 of them have been inhabited since ancient geological times. 240 is endemic. Of the mammals, four species are noteworthy: the common dolphin, the dolphin Apalina, the guinea pig, and the white-tailed deer. There are 180 known species of fish in the Black Sea, 17% of which are freshwater. Most have commercial significance. Notable among them are foam, herring, hops, sturgeon, mullet, mackerel, halibut, sturgeon.
